Bikes & Books for Africa Charity
08 January 2009
The Wiltshire Web are pleased to announce their association with The Charity Jole Rider.
Bikes4Africa
Many African students have to walk 10 miles, or even further - in searing heat - to get to their nearest secondary school.
Jole Rider provide quality, refurbished bikes to African secondary schools. The bikes are refurbished with the help of volunteer engineers and Jole Rider’s partners HM Prison Service .
The bikes are donated to the African secondary schools, as school assets, and allocated by teachers to students with the longest walks to school. When a student finishes his or her education, their bike remains at the school, to be used by another student.
The charity to date has sent over 3000 bikes to Africa and is planning to expand operations with “Books 4 Africa” as the next direction for activity, and towards which it has already obtained the support of both Penguin Books and Dorling Kindersley.
