Warminster Cycle Group announce Warminster Wobble on Sunday 14th June 2009

13 May 2009

What's a wobble?

As part of Bike Week, the Warminster Cycle Group are organising a one-day community event to promote cycling, particularly in and around Warminster Wiltshire.

The town’s central park will play host to a day of cycle-related events, including BMX displays by local riders, advice on cycle maintenance from the town’s bike shop, bike tests, and the chance to participate in a fun ride around the town.

 Event organiser Colin French said,

“During a community day here in Warminster last November we showcased our plans for the event and had a good response from local people.

Many residents would love to use a cycle in the town but lack confidence. In an effort to remedy this, we have teamed up with Bikeability, who have offered to come along on the day and explain how they can help children and adults alike to gain the skills and confidence to ride their bikes on today's roads.

Local schools have been asked by the government to find safe routes to school for cyclists and Bikeability schemes have been set up to train youngsters on the road. One school already has 10 pupils trained”.

The day will begin with a 1 to 2 mile cycle through the town, incorporating the newly refurbished high street. With refreshment stops provided by Country Markets along the way, the riders will return to the park where the event will continue.

Other groups representing Bike Week will also be participating, with information and advice available on a wide range of cycling issues.

Please come along, lend us your support and join in on what promises to be an educational and fun packed day.
