environment is a valuable teaching resource and environmental education is now an
essential part of school work. The Trust has its own Education Service, designed to assist
teachers in developing environmntal education resources and activities at their own
school, be it in the classroom, school grounds or at a local wild place. The Education Service is a membership scheme where schools have direct access to the expertise and resources produced by the Trust's education section. The cost of annual subscription is £50 (£20 for cluster schools). What the scheme offers: Access to the Trust's education section for the development of environmental education at your school. Member schools are entitled to an annual free half days use of the Trust's Education Service. This may be extended to a full day at the additional cost of £50. If this extended option is taken on a day other than the free half day the additional support is available at a cost of £100/full day, £75/half day. Member schools join a network of like-minded teachers and schools involved in environmental activities. Through this network schools will be able to exchange ideas, experiences, resources, and develop joint projects. Teaching resources produced by the Watch Education Service available at reduced rate. Wildlife Watch is the environmental education wing of The Wildlife Trusts. We will visit your school to discuss the development of environmental projects and resources. Advice can be given on incorporating your ideas into a school development plan, involving parents and governors and tapping into local resources. Activities can be designed for you, covering curriculum subjects - for example climate, soils rocks and minerals, water, energy, plants and animals, people and their communities, recycling and the local environment. The Trust has over 40 nature reserves around the county. We can help you arrange nature reserve visits, including providing teachers guides, pond dipping facilities etc. Your school will receive the Trust's own magazine, Wiltshire Wildlife, three times a year, plus the magazine of The Wildlife Trusts, Natural World. Advice and assistance in setting up your own wildlife area in your school grounds.
