Otters and Rivers Project
The Trust wants to protect the rivers and wetlands in Wiltshire, many of which are of
national and international importance for the richness of their wildlife. The Otters and
Rivers Project works to achieve this by working with landowners, fishing associations,
statutory bodies such as English Nature and the Environment Agency, and the water
companies to maintain and enhance the river environment.
The Project encourages the use of traditional management practices and the use of buffer
strips near watercourses. It also carries out work to help specific species, such as holt
construction for otters.
If you own or manage land by a watercourse, or would be interested in doing survey work on
a watercourse near you, please contact Mark Satinet, the Otters and Rivers Project
Officer, at the Trust's headquarters in Devizes, tel 01380 725670.
Salisbury Wildlife Project
The Salisbury Wildlife Project was started by the Wiltshire Wildlife Trust to help
conserve and enhance the natural environment in Salisbury and south Wiltshire.
We aim to achieve this by providing advice and encouraging landowners and farmers to
manage their land in sympathy with wildlife; by supporting local communities who want to
become involved in the conservation of their environment; and by raising environmental
awareness through education and interpretation. This could be through help with writing a
management plan for your local wild area; organising tree planting or scrub cutting,
advice on recycling initiatives; helping with guided walks or providing specialist
ecological knowledge.
One of the most important roles of the Project is to help maintain the biodiversity of the
River Avon and its tributaries, which is of national and international importance for
nature conservation.
For more information about the Project please contact Colin Dyke, Salisbury Project
Officer, Wiltshire Wildlife Trust, Greencroft House, 42-46 Salt Lane, Salisbury SP1 1EG.

Braydon Forest Project
The Braydon Forest Project was set up by the Wiltshire Wildlife Trust in 1990. The Project
aims to promote the sympathetic management of the woods, meadows, ponds and hedgerows
within the area of the Royal Forest in North Wiltshire. The Project also develops ideas
that will enhance people's enjoyment of the countryside. By working with landowners and
local people many of these aims have already been achieved.
If you would like more information about the Project, please contact: Paul Darby, Braydon
Forest Project Officer At the Trust's headquarters in Devizes, telephone 01380 725670.
Cotswolds and By
Brook Project
The Project aims to encourage measures to conserve and enhance wildlife habitats and
landscape in this area of scenic beauty and high biodiversity. With increasing pressures
from agricultural intensification, tourism and development it is important that ways are
found to combine all interests in the countryside.
A key role of the project is to work with land owners and managers. We advise on a wide
range of topics, such as environmental grants, managing meadows and pastures, woodlands
and hedgerows, tree planting, river and stream enhancements, creating and restoring ponds
and restoring stone walls.
We also want to encourage local people to get involved in protecting their environment.
Wildlife surveys, practical conservation work and projects with schools can all
contribute. Encouraging improved access and interpretation of existing sites enables
locals and visitors alike to get the most of the wonderful wildlife around them.
To find out more about the project, and how you can get involved, contact Cotswolds and By
Brook Project Officer Mark Lang at the Trust's Devizes headquarters, tel 01380 725670.
