Find out how your garden can be a haven for wildlife at Conigre Mead Nature Reserve’s Open Day on Sunday 11 June from 1-4pm. Experts will be on hand to display wildlife-friendly plants and gardening materials at the reserve, owned by Wiltshire Wildlife Trust and just a short walk from Sainsbury’s along Melksham’s Riverside Walk. Other fun (and mostly free) activities for all the family will include willow sculpture, pond dipping, minibeasting and a wildflower plant stall. The Open Day comes at the end of National Wildlife Week, aimed at raising awareness of the UK’s unique and threatened wildlife heritage. Conigre Mead is a grassy meadow on the banks of the River Avon. It has two ponds teeming with wildlife, and offers the chance of seeing kingfishers, emperor dragonflies and the nationally important water vole. “The Open Day will be a chance to celebrate the hard work of the people of Melksham, who are carrying out vital conservation work at Conigre Mead,” said Helena Ronicle, Wiltshire Wildlife Trust’s Reserves Manager for Conigre Meads. |
