Swindon Wildlife Watch Group, which provides wildlife- and environment-related activities for children aged 7-13, celebrates its 100th meeting with a special “champagne and water” event at Coate Water Park on Saturday June 24. Entitled “Water World”, the event takes place from 10am-1pm and is open to all (Watch Group members free, guests £1). Highlight of the day will be a chance to take part in a wildlife survey of the pond – so old clothes, wellies and gloves are advised. The group has been going since 1993 and now has 125 members. Its leader is Phil Dean, a Countryside Ranger for Swindon Borough Council. The group is supported by Swindon Borough Council and the Great Western Community Forest organisation. A special Peace Garden at Coate Water Park is just one of the group’s achievements. For further details, contact Phil Deane, Watch Group Leader, on 01793 490150, or Sharon Charity, Wiltshire Wildlife Trust Press Officer, on 01380 725670. |
