SPLISH SPLASH SPLOSH IN SALISBURY

Splash out this Sunday, 28th May, at Salisbury Wildlife Project’s River Fun Day, taking place at Queen Elizabeth Gardens from 12-2pm. Experts and special river-dipping equipment will be on hand to help adults and children (accompanied only, please) discover the damselflies, dragonflies and great diving beetles that live on this internationally-renowned stretch of water.

Entitled Splish Splash Splosh!, the event, open to all for a donation of £1 per dipper, will provide a wellies-on opportunity to get to know one of Salisbury’s greatest treasures – a world-famous river which is home to a multitude of plants and animals.

The Salisbury Wildlife Project, part of the Wiltshire Wildlife Trust, works to encourage awareness among local communities of the wealth of wildlife around them and what they can do to conserve it. Salisbury Wildlife Officer Colin Dyke says “This is an excellent chance for the people of Salisbury to get their feet wet and discover the amazing diversity of wildlife that the River Avon supports”.

The Salisbury Wildlife Project is able to run events such as Splish, Splash, Splosh through the continued support of Salisbury District Council and the Hills Group.

The project is involved in a whole range of activities aimed at enhancing South Wiltshire’s wildlife. Perhaps the most exciting of these is the community-led project to enhance the River Avon between Fisherton Street and Crane Street this summer. New banks will be created over the existing concrete and planted with yellow flag, marsh marigold and a host of other plants. These will bring a riot of greenery and colour to the otherwise grey banks, as well as providing a home for water voles, coots and moorhens.
