Avebury to Stonehenge

The Sarsen Trail Walk and Neolithic Marathon, link the two World Heritage Sites of Avebury and Stonehenge, and take in a part of Salisbury Plain which is usually closed to the public.

Marsh fritillaryOrganised by Wiltshire Wildlife Trust, the 26 mile route crosses some of the finest downland countryside in Britain, and offers stunning views across the Avon Valley.

Walkers can either undertake the full 26 miles, or walk to/from the midway point - Redhorn Hill.

The Neolithic Marathon is a challenging cross country course, being multi-terrain and undulating. An added attraction for 1999 was the inclusion of a half marathon, from Wilsford Hill to Stonehenge, a 13-mile course of medium severity. Walkers on the Sarsen Trail

The route takes in the second half of the full marathon and includes a section across part of Salisbury Plain. These events are organised by dedicated volunteers to raise money for nature conservation in Wiltshire.
