Since 1989, the Sarsen Trail and Neolithic Marathon have grown to be
the Wiltshire Wildlife Trusts largest annual fundraising events.
Over 1,750 participants took part, which was a record number of people, walking
up to 26 miles across Salisbury Plain. It is hoped that over £25,000 will
have been raised to assist the Trust with the conservation work throughout the
county.
Next year, the event will be held on Sunday April 30th. Contact Sheila Martin
or Patrick Turner at the office, if you would like to be put on the mailing
list.
"Brilliant organisation, enjoyable event, pity the soles of my feet
developed blisters but it was hot and hard underfoot" Mrs Payne from
Westbury.
"Many thanks for a lovely walk - beautifully organised and especially for
the gorgeous cake at the end". Mr and Mrs Frampton, South Croydon.
"It was a pleasure to take part in this event and I would like to
congratulate you on the excellent standard of organisation. I hope to take part
for many years to come" Elizabeth Brennan, Salisbury.
"I appreciated the water and the mineral water was very refreshing too.
The coffee and cake at the end was excellent and the other thing we really
liked, was the way you had reversed the mile signs, so they went in descending
order." Imogen Brown from Calne Neolithic Marathon
"Do please thank the marvellous organisers, marshals and helpers,
particularly the kind and cheerful people at Wilsford Hill, the
water-distributors at Wexland with the vase of tulips and cup of dandelions,
and the charming man who shook our hands and congratulated us as we staggered
in. If you need any volunteers for next year, please let me know."
Rosamund Jones, Fordingbridge.
About
the Wiltshire Wildlife Trust
The Wiltshire Wildlife Trust is the largest voluntary organisation in the
county concerned with all aspects of nature conservation. Established in 1962,
the Trust manages over 40 nature reserves which include downland, ancient
woodland and traditional flower-rich meadows in order to conserve and enhance
wildlife which might otherwise be at risk from the demands of urban development
and intensive agriculture.
The Trust also aims to promote the value of nature conservation and raise
awareness of environmental issues to people of all ages and in all walks of
life. You can support our work by joining the Trust, either as an individual or
as a business member. Members are kept informed of our work by a regular
magazine and are welcomed at local meetings and events organised by Trust
volunteers and staff.

Children can join Wiltshire Wildlife Watch, the junior section of the
Trust.
The Wiltshire Wildlife Trust is a member
of a partnership of 47 county trusts who work together for the benefit of
wildlife nationally. This means our influence is felt beyond the county
boundary.
